Summary:
From its birth in Nantes in 1896 to the present day, the legendary Belem has never ceased to sail. This square-rigged three-masted ship has crossed through the ages, changing nationalities three times and serving various roles—as a commercial ship, pleasure yacht, and training vessel. It has braved the oceans, narrowly escaping wars and natural disasters, as if guided by a lucky star. Exceptional in its history, the Belem remains an iconic figure today. This monument of French heritage is the only surviving 19th-century commercial tall ship. Thanks to the Belem Foundation, it continues to sail the oceans as a training vessel and ambassador for France abroad, delighting all who encounter it.

Explore the Belem of yesterday and today through Benjamin Decoin's photographic report, archival documents, and the writings of Daniel Gilles, a journalist and maritime specialist.
